RYA Youth Sailing Scheme- Stage 3
RYA Youth Sailing - stage 3
Course Description
Ullswater Sailing School's RYA Stage 3 course is designed to allow you to sail a small single-handed dinghy independently in any direction. Our RYA qualified instructors will teach you how to rig a dinghy correctly and how to launch and recover a boat. You will spend plenty of time on the water building on your previous knowledge and skills and learning how to sail in a greater variety of situations. We will introduce you to racing and teach you some of the techniques for making your boat sail faster. You will also learn more about using ropes and knots effectively
The course will cover:
Rigging
Launching and recovery
Sailing techniques
Capsize recovery
Sailing theory
Course Duration - 2 full days or spread over 16 hours
Previous Experience. You will be expected to have the skills and knowledge required of the RYA Youth Scheme Stage 2 at the beginning of the course.
Minimum Age - 8
On completion of the Stage 3 Course, you will be able to rig and launch a dinghy and sail in any direction in moderate conditions. Your skills and knowledge mean that you will be able to regard yourself as a sailor and not just a beginner!
Next steps. You should now be able to sail a dinghy in most conditions and you will continue to learn and improve each time you go out sailing. Joining a club like UYC is a good way to progress as you will get lots of opportunities to take part in a range of activities that are designed for sailors at your level. If you would like more instruction then there are some RYA advanced modules covering a variety of interests. Your instructor can give you more information about these.
